The Log Channel type sends notifications to the log, which can be useful when developing new rules. The functionality for the channel is defined in Log Channel Script.
The Log Channel also records the process types (process templates) and event types so that the filter autocompletes have something to work with. When you are implementing new process flows, add in the log channel for a while to capture these to make maintaining rules in the Notification rules folder easier.
